Review: Blood of Olympus *Contains Spoilers*

The Blood of Olympus
Author: Rick Riordan
Published: October 7, 2014
Source: Library

Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen—all of them—and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood—the blood of Olympus—in order to wake.

The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it "might" be able to stop a war between the two camps.

The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

Oh yes, who doesn't love a good prophecy? *sarcasm* At long last the journey of the 7 demi-gods has come to an end and they can have a break. & Gosh I hated this prophecy, it meant that one of them must die, and that one had to the fun loving repair boy Leo. -sniff- He is one of those people who smile even if they are hurting and never talks about his problems. He was the one who kept the crew laughing even if he was depressed. It was a real shame that he didn't have a love interest for a long long time in the book, but I'm happy he found Calypso. Though then again I feel like Reyna might have had it worse in the category of Love. I mean she got turned down by both Percy and Jason, like ouch. But even though Aphrodite said that she won't find love in the midst of all the demi-gods, I kinda hoped that she might take another chance at love. I mean who is to say that you can't defy fate, huh? I mean sometimes fate can be unavoidable but look at all the times the crew of the argo has done it? When Orion had appeared I almost thought for a split second maybe he could be with Reyna but nope he's not the one.  I personally kinda hoped she might find love with Nico, because come on guys he and Reyna make a great team, and a great couple! But we may never know.

I really wanted to see more of some characters like Grover, and Will. Though definitely not Octavian, he was such a crazy nut job, not as crazy as Gaea but you get my gist. I mean Grover kinda disappeared after the fifth book, and I really loved his character he was so funny and part of the original crew with him, Percy, and Annabeth. As for Will Solace the son of Apollo, I really liked his character in this book and I would definitely love to see more of him. He was awesome and a really funny character especially in that scene where he surprised Nico by being angry at Nico for not visiting him in the clinic. I'm really glad that Nico found a new friend and maybe a new potential love interest. Because you know what they say, "Opposites attract", and Nico and Will are literally polar opposites. & another part that was funny about the book was when apparently Apollo's 'chariot' was what brought him to Camp Half Blood, and Nico thought that his death might end with Apollo's son, so maybe this was some of Rick's foreshadowing that Apollo or maybe his descendant's will be involved with Nico in the future. xD

One thing I will miss about this book series will be the characters that we all have learned to love over the years. The second thing I will miss about this book would be the one and only Percy Jackson, those sea green color eyes and black hair will always be my favorite combination *sorry Will >.<* and let's not forget his personality it's what makes him at the top of my list for book boyfriends. Even though he may be a seaweed brain he's still our seaweed brain!

Ahh as a long time reader of this series I am so sad to see this book series end, but fear not for the fans of this book series, Rick Riordan is writing a new series that feature's Magnus Chase. & He might possibly be Annabeth's cousin that lives in Boston so maybe and hopefully Annabeth will cameo in the book if her dad's feud ends with her uncle *whom is a norse god?* :D But seriously Rick and his foreshadowing is top-notch. xD Maybe I'll try reading the Kane Chronicles again, who knows. So let's not think of this as a goodbye to the Percy Jackson series but just another chapter in the amazing stories that Rick Riordan has created for us, one of the most loyal book fandoms. x)
This get's 5/5 stars!

Until then, Cindy ;)

The Book Combo Tag!

Hey, I'm doing this tag that one of my new friends in the blogging community, Carrie @ The Book Goddess has nominated me for! She has a creative blog so you guys should check it out, and thanks so much for nominating me Carrie! ;)

  1. Which two authors would you like to put their writing skills together and write a book?     Hmm.. This is a hard one, but I think that Rick Riordan and Cassandra Clare would work great together. I think their writing styles though different, won't really clash with each others and they will work really well together. Imagine it, demi-gods, and shadow hunters. That's the dream! xD
  2. Whats your favorite author collaboration? I don't really read collaborations much but I would say The Beautiful Creatures Series, and maybe when I read the collaboration of Holly Black and Cassandra Clare that will be my new favorite.
  3. If you combine two completely different stories and make them a book of their own, what would it be and what would it be called? I have never really thought about this but maybe James Patterson and Rick Riordan. It would have snark, humor, romance, and everything I would love. Plus I don't know do you guys think if the Maximum Ride series and Percy Jackson series were put together, would they have different ships? I mean think about Fang, and Annabeth, or maybe Iggy with her? Like wow that would be mind blowing if that happened! About the plot I guess it would be like this: A group of kids who are special on their own, in a world where they are separated by discrimination the demi-gods and the angels will come together to stop the prophecy that proclaim's armageddon. Okay, I may not be the best summary writer but that's the gist of what I would want the book to be even though it may not make sense. xD For a title.. I actually don't know.. What would you guys think it would be called?
  4. Which two worlds from two different stories would you like to see come together to make an epic world? Hm.. maybe the Matched series and the Shadow Falls series. I think if you put those two stories together it would really be good!
  5. Which duology/trilogy series would you liked to have been one book?  I don't think I would like to have only one book, I pretty much happy with series it brings more excitement and if it's a series their's always that cliffhanger that will keep you waiting for that next book! ;)
Okay I nominate:

Until then, Cindy :)

I'm actually reading this now, and I'm really sad that it's the last book of the series. -sniff- But I've heard that he is starting a new series that I believe is about Celtic gods. I think I actually wouldn't mind reading about that, it sounds really interesting, plus I've heard that some think that the book might be in the same world as this series because the main character in his new series has the last name Chase so he might be related to Annabeth xD Small World. But I'm getting off track now so back to the book, I'm really excited to read it right now but I was really sad to see that there were no P.o.v's for Percy or Annabeth. Even though I was looking forward to read their perspectives again, I guess it's okay because it was mostly them in House of Hades. Talking about House of Hades I can't believe that Nico was gay, not that I am against it, I was just really surprised but it's okay I love Percy too. Honestly I'm a fan that stay's true to the original series so if I was ever given the choice I would be in Camp Half Blood, and I would totally think Percy and Annabeth would beat Jason and Piper *not trying to start a fan war -holds hands up, but that is just my opinion-.  Calypso though, if she had found out a way with Leo to come back or had maybe came back with Percy earlier she would've been Annabeth's biggest threat because as said before she is Percy's 'biggest what if', plus Percy keeps Moonlace at his apartment back in NY, but that wouldn't likely happen because Calypso said she was over him. Though seriously if that happened I honestly wouldn't know who's team I would be on, Annabeth's or Calypso.. cause she is really awesome. But I'm really happy that she and Leo might actually end up together if he gets her out! :D
Ahh Percy Jackson fan art ♥_♥

Dearest
Author: Alethea Kontis
Published: February 3, 2015
Source: Library

Readers met the Woodcutter sisters (named after the days of the week) in Enchanted and Hero. In this delightful third book, Alethea Kontis weaves together some fine-feathered fairy tales to focus on Friday Woodcutter, the kind and loving seamstress. When Friday stumbles upon seven sleeping brothers in her sister Sunday's palace, she takes one look at Tristan and knows he's her future. But the brothers are cursed to be swans by day. Can Friday's unique magic somehow break the spell?

I actually really enjoyed the first book which featured Sunday, so I was really excited to read the next book but I had accidentally grabbed the third book from the library. Dx But that's okay even though I don't like the idea of skipping a book in a series but I heard that it's okay to read this before the second book but you will just miss a couple stuff like Saturday's story, which I plan on reading soon. But seriously the author is has amazing writing, and it's really nice how she incorporates the fairy tale's into the books and makes her own unique story! So I would definitely suggest this to anybody who likes fairy tale re-tellings! :)

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown
Author: Holly Black
Published: September 3, 2013
Source: Library

Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown's gates, you can never leave.

One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.

From all the reviews I've come across for this book, I think it will actually be a great book to read for me. I haven't really read a Holly Black book since the Spiderwick Chronicles, but if this is as good as back then, then I will definitely like this. Holly Black for me just has this imagination that makes me love her books, plus she even did a book with Cassandra Clare which means something for me because I loved most of her books too. So right now I have a really high opinion for Holly Black which I hope won't be destroyed when I read it. But I'm confident that I will like it, the plot is interesting and it eludes a feeling of mystery too which I like.

Throne of Glass
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Published: August 7, 2012
Source: Library

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

I really like the plot of this book, plus assassins?! I just feel like I will love this book, I haven't read a book with assassin's since Grave Mercy and that book was fantastic! Hm.. about the love triangle, from what I'm getting from the blurb is that it's gonna be the prince and the captain of the guard. Personally I think I might like the captain of the guard over the prince. I mean sometimes I find prince's overrated.. fine maybe not at all. It's just I've been wary about Princes since I read the Red Queen which by the way I didn't like >.< sorry guys but to me the love triangle was really stupid, I mean in the book most of her thoughts after she was forced to take her 'real identity' were consumed about which one she should trust, or which boy should I love?! It was really annoying me alot. So I really hope that this book won't be based all on the main girl trying to figure out who she should love and all that shiz but about finding the freedom she desire's and finding out who is killing the other contender's who want freedom. *lol, what happened if a plot twist happened and the one killing her contenders was the captain of the guard or the prince? xD How weird would that be? But it would be even weirder if I was right O_O*

The Raven Boys
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Published: September 18, 2012
Source: Library

“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

This book actually interests me a lot especially after reading about it's plot which seems really unique and original. Blue Sargent who was told that she would cause her fated one to die, she would carry the burden of knowing that when she meets her fated one she may as well be the catalyst that leads to his death. That's a huge burden, for a girl and I really want to see how this story develops especially when she meets her fated one who I'm guessing is Gansey.

Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger... and the Strigoi are always close by.

Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever...

I was really wary about this book because a lot of people had given it bad reviews both the book and the movie which I hadn't read or watched yet, but I don't really want to go based on those and plus I have read a couple reviews were people said that the book wasn't as bad as other people had built it up to be. So I'm going to take the chance to read this!!

Stone Cold Touch
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Published: October 21, 2014

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

I'm really anticipating this book, since I first finished the last book White Hot Kiss. While I'm on Team Roth right now, I've heard many had turned to Team Zayne. But I guess that can't be helped as from what I'm getting from the plot, this book will be mainly based on Zayne's relationship with Layla, as the last book was based on Layla's feelings and Roth's. Personally I don't think I will be changing teams, because the last book really gave me the impression that Layla was definitely in love with Roth especially after what he had done for her in the end, and I just felt that there wasn't really a love triangle at all because too me in this book it was just Roth and Layla. I just could not believe that Zayne actually did like Layla and their was a love triangle until Roth said that Zayne definitely did not look at her like a friend. But who know's if I will change teams, I guess I will find it out in this book which team I will be on since this book is gonna be mostly Layla and Zayne then surprise surprise Roth appears later on conflicting Layla's feelings. xD

So these are the current books I'm reading right now, the most anticipated book I'm looking forward to reading is Blood of Olympus though it's really sad that it's the last book. -sighs- So what are the current books you guys are reading? & If you guys have read these books feel free to comment about them just don't post any spoilers! Plus I will post a review of Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard soon.

Until then. Cindy :)

White Hot Kiss by Jennifer Armentrout

White Hot Kiss
By: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Source: PDF

*Summary from Goodreads
(By the way my reviews will contain spoilers so read at your own cost)

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

What can I say about this book? It is freaking epic and I'm so thankful to Erika @Books, Stars, Writing, and Everything in Between for starting the event to re-read this book because otherwise I wouldn't have found this book! :D I absolutely love the chemistry between Layla and Roth, and the instant I met Roth in the book I was on #Team Roth xD And I quote "At the moment, he looked more like an angel than a demon-a mind numbing beauty that couldn't be trusted", It hit me that I would absolutely love this guy cause he reminded me so much of Will, I'm not saying they are the same but Roth just reminds me of him. I also really liked how the author included so many references to shows, especially Supernatural because I loved that show (until like the last two seasons like what is happening? I don't even know anymore what the purpose in the show is anymore but le sigh I will still watch it. And I swear Chuck is the big man in heaven. And I will dearly miss Kevin :| ).

Although I heard there was a love triangle in this book from many others who have read this, I didn't really feel like there was one at all. I mean Zayne... I didn't really think he liked Layla until Roth had said to Layla that Zayne definitely liked her more then a friend. Like Layla I find it really ironic how Roth names his familiar's, but other than that I really liked them especially Bambi. Roth, like dear gosh he is just something *couldn't find a word*, If I could imagine his smile I would imagine it would be like Damon's from Vampire Diaries, he may be dangerous but he got the smile of an angel, though he is so cocky. xD Okay, okay maybe the last one would be more like Magnus from TMI and TID... and yes I'm gonna spam with a bunch of gifs. :P

Though this might be weird.. I was always waiting for that moment when Zayne would meet Roth with Layla while they were kissing or something and I would imagine it would be like this:
*Yeah.. I feel like Zayne would freak out a lot so I put a lot of gifs. for him o____o

Zayne:

Roth:

Layla:

But really Roth isn't what I expected him to be, he didn't become a jealous bastard or anything when Zayne was with Layla and I really appreciated that about him, and I liked that he wasn't one to sugar coat things. He just told things to Layla straight to the point. Though the ending of the book really got me. I thought Roth was going to be trapped forever when he sacrificed himself and saved Zayne. I really loved that part when he did that, even though Zayne was the enemy *sorta* he saved him because he knew Layla would be crushed if Zayne was going to be trapped even if it meant sacrificing himself he would do it because he loves her. -sniff-

*Again I'm not saying that he and Will are the same, I'm just saying that he reminds me of Will. *
Roth seemed to have had that vulnerability of someone who's hurt but still coveres it with a mask. He believed he wasn't real and just a replacement just like all the princes before him and Layla was the one to tell him that he wasn't a replacement and he was just as real as anybody else. This is why I'm on #Team Roth, Roth and Layla just get each other like how two puzzle pieces fit each other *I know terrible analogy x_x* & oh my gosh I literally cried when he said this before he was sent away because of the trap :'( "Free will, huh? Damn. It is  a bitch'. And he smiled-he smiled- at me, a real smile, revealing those deep dimples. 'I lost myself the moment I found you". ← the #1 most heartbreaking moment of this book. .-. But the ending reassure's me because of how Layla found her chain in his apartment fixed, so I can't wait to read the next book! This gets 5/5 stars!

Until next time, Cindy :)

The Dark Elements Series Re-Read + Bonus'! :D

Hey, I'm sharing news about The Dark Elements series re-reading hosted by Erika @Books,Stars, Writing, And Everything In Between, and Cody from Literary-ly Obessed. I personally haven't read the series yet, but I will be reading it soon! :D I couldn't get a physical copy of the book, I got a pdf copy!!! I'm really excited for this series too, from what I've heard it got everything from angels, to demons, to gargoyles, and humans! I personally feel like it would be a breath of fresh air to hear that the guys *i think* will be snarky xD I know that's weird but when I think snarky I think WILL HERONDALE!! Darn Immortality! :[ :(

This is a book character that made be tear up at the thought of their death. She was so memorable, she definitely would of been one of the best friends we would ever experience. :|

By Natalie Rabbit
Published November 1, 1985

I never thought I would read a book like this but I did it for a summer reading assignment years ago and though I haven't thought of it in a while I still feel sad about the death of Winnie. She could've lived forever with Tuck but she chose not to. She chose what another person would've or mightn't not chosen if they were in her position.. she chose not to live forever even if it was offered to her by one of the best boys ever that had loved her so much that he would even offer this, and one that she would never forget, Tuck. I really felt the loss at the end of the book. I felt so bad for Tuck, Tuck the sweet boy, the caring one, the honest one, the one who had to live forever.. and to have his heart broken while experiencing the past when he saw her grave stone. Those memories that he and Winnie had, I bet where always their with him even after he moved away, even when he wanted to see her but couldn't. He, the one who had to live forever will be the one who will watch the ones he loved and cherished fade away. One could forget what love after living forever but Winnie had given him that experience to feel what love was. I wish the book could've had a different ending but ultimately I wouldn't change a thing, the whole plot of this book was perfect and its what makes the book so amazing. *Claps, sadly while screaming bravo, bravo*

A book characters death is so sad, but the sad reality is that we will get over it all one day. Though it may take a while cause of all the feels. :'(
I was actually gonna post more characters but for some reason I can't think of any characters right now x_x... I haven't exactly read any books with a character dying in them in a while so I guess in a way I'm avoiding those sad feels. So anyways what are some book character deaths you guys were really sad about?

Well until next time, Cindy :)

Legend by Marie Lu

Legend by Marie Lu
Published: April 16, 2013
Genre: Dystopian
Source: Borrowed, & Summary from Goodreads

From different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths...

Until June's brother is murdered, and Day becomes the prime suspect.

In a shocking turn of events, the two uncover what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths to which their country will go to keep its secrets.

I've heard many good reviews about this book, but honestly I couldn't really get into it at all. It wasn't the author's writing, it just the story plot to me was too slow and a bit bland. The plot is good at some points,  but it just doesn't give me that feeling when I read dystopian books like for an example Shatter Me, or The Darkest Minds. The feeling where you don't know whats happening next but still read on, when the story is slow yet still captures you into the world of it, or the feeling where you feel as if you are experiencing the characters feelings in the book. Don't get me wrong I absolutely loved how she wrote the story with just the right amount of action but not too much fluff in it but that's just about it..

Like I really did not like June and at all, she got Day's mother killed *unintentionally*, turned him in to the authorities and almost got him killed. :| I really didn't understand why Day wasn't really angry at those facts at all. I mean really? Plus though her writing is good, I just feel like that sometimes the scenes where very vague and rushed. I mean June had just made an assumption on some things and them poof she's right, no clues other than a blurry picture. One just doesn't find one or two clues and figure out the whole thing.

I didn't really get into the whole frenzy for this book like others did but this is just me. I'm sure others will love this book, considering all the good reviews others have given it! ;) 2.5/5 stars is my final score for this book!

Until next time, Cindy :)
